Many people make New Year resolutions because the New Year means a new start, a beginning point, a time where something old has passed by bringing in a new era of life. The New Year gets a new name no longer 2012 but 2013. In this new era of 2013 many people will resolve to attempt a change by making a new start. They resolve themselves to either stop doing something or start doing something.
In the song “I Am Resolved” the first stanza reads “I am resolved no longer to linger, Charmed by the world’s delight, Things that are higher, things that are nobler, These have allured my sight.” I am resolved or I am determined to stop smoking, drinking, over spending, over eating or start spending more time with family, start reading the Bible more, start being more positive, or start living life to the fullest. Of course there are many other resolutions that people make, which depends on the person’s perception of need or want.
The adage “What Would Jesus Do” doesn’t really fit because Jesus would not have a smoking problem, drinking problem, spending problem or any other problem that needs correcting. Jesus is the sinless son of God. However, the statement should be “What would Jesus encourage you to do”. In Matt. 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Jesus is very interested your spiritual life. His whole life on this earth was about you and me. Are you sin free? Do you have the blood cleansing power of Jesus flowing in your life? That should be the number one resolution in America. I resolve to come to Jesus. The second and third stanza of the song I AM RESOLVED reads
I will hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I will hasten, hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I am resolved to go to the Savior,
Leaving my sin and strife;
He is the true One, He is the just One,
He hath the words of life.
Hasten to him, to Jesus or the sin problem will still be there festering, churning, causing ones spiritual life to falter and stall. However, I must resolve no longer to linger, Charmed by the world’s delight, Things that are higher, things that are nobler, These have allured my sight.” Jesus says I you will give you rest. So where do we go from here. Phil 3:13-14 give us the answer, “But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.
God is calling you today to be resolved to finding your way to him. If you have not had your sins forgiven by the blood of Jesus, then become a child of God. The following link will help you discover the way to Jesus: https://184.108.40.206/~cwtech38/coldwatercoc.com/godsplanforyou.html
